Created to Fill a Critical Gap

Throughout my career as a clinician & clinical supervisor working in high-risk settings, I was trained on well-established tools for identifying & responding to suicide risk. What I found is that there are many resources available for this.  (Which is greatly needed!)

However, assessments for potential violence toward others, were far more limited.

Such situations require professionals to make difficult decisions quickly. Oftentimes,  circumstances don't allow for the administration of  a lengthy, comprehensive assessment before a decision to escalate, refer  for further evaluation, initiate protective custody or another safety response must be made.

I created THREAT-RS™ to help address that gap.

Public Safety Is Everyone's Interest

Potential threats are not only a concern in therapy offices. Professionals across many settings need to be able to recognize concerning behavior, gather relevant information, and determine whether a situation requires escalation. This decision-support tool can be used by professionals of varying roles, credentials and educational levels.

THREAT-RS™ can be helpful to professionals in  settings such as (but not limited to):

  • Mental health and behavioral health

  • Schools and educational systems

  • Law enforcement and public safety

  • Healthcare and emergency services

  • Case management and social services

  • Banking and financial institutions

  • Legal and workplace environments

The tool is able to be administered quickly, and provides a structured, easy-to-understand framework for navigating tense, time-sensitive, and high-stakes situations.

A Decision-Support Tool

THREAT-RS™ is not a predictive instrument and does not replace professional judgment, critical thinking, organizational policy, or applicable legal requirements. It is designed to support the recognition, documentation, and escalation of potential safety concerns alongside observation, collateral information, professional experience, and other available evidence.

Training and Licensing

Organizations interested in using THREAT-RS™ may schedule a consultation to discuss:

  • Organizational licensing

  • Professional training by our team of professionals

  • Implementation within existing policies and procedures

  • Appropriate use across clinical and nonclinical settings

Training is designed to help participants understand the purpose, limitations, and responsible application of the tool, and violence overall.
